 In this highly competitive market, a new system popularly being followed by many companies in marketing their products is the Internet marketing or affiliate marketing. Internet marketing is web-based marketing wherein one business, often called the merchant, pays one or more affiliates for each customer they get from the affiliates marketing efforts. Pay per sale, pay per lead, and pay per click are the three commonly used methods for earning money.
Pay per sale: In this case the affiliates earn a commission when a sale is completed by the company. Generally this offers the largest amount of commission and is more popular with the affiliates.
Pay per Lead: When a potential customer's information is provided to the company by the affiliates to the merchant to take the sale further, he earns a commission. The affiliates get a commission even if the merchant may or may not complete the sale. This method is useful for service companies providing services like loan and insurance.
Pay per click: Under this method the affiliates earn commission on directing the visitors to the merchants website. The
commission for such transactions is the least. The affiliates can earn well if they are proficient in driving the prospects towards the merchants website.
Working of the home based affiliate programs
Internet marketing is gaining popularity for the last few years as it is possible for anyone to start a home based business using the low cost training guides available. The affiliate is given a unique tracking ID or an individual URL that can be used to advertise the products and services of the merchant. This tracking Id is also used by the merchant to track the affiliates' performance and the commission. These merchants will have links on their sites where the affiliates can sign up for the affiliates program. The program is conducted by the merchant directly and also pays the affiliates himself.
Another popular method is affiliate marketing network. This is favored by the merchants and affiliates alike. The program is conducted by the marketing network. The affiliate marketing network takes the payment for the vendor, pays the affiliates and forwards the balance amount to the merchant after deducting the network fees. This network is favored by the affiliates as they can work with different vendors and receive lump sum payment from the network.
Components of Internet marketing
Internet marketing may require you to have a website, a search engine marketing (SEM), banner advertising and the on line promotional tools. Having a website is beneficial and inexpensive for the home business operator as it will be the store front for selling the goods and services. The website may or may not have the ability to capture leads on potential customers. SEM is marketing the website via search engine. This can be done by search engine optimization or by buying pay per click advertisements based on selected key words.
Internet has enabled home businesses to prosper, as the cost of starting the business and maintaining it are quite low.
